Privacy Policy

PrivateByte Privacy Policy

Version 1.0. Effective date: June 21, 2026.

Publication note: PrivateByte is distributed by an individual developer. The legal operator name and postal address still need final legal review before public hosting where required by law.

1. Controller

The controller responsible for personal data processed in connection with PrivateByte apps is the individual developer publishing under the PrivateByte name.

Contact: your@privatebyte.app

2. Core privacy design

PrivateByte builds local-first software. Apps should run on the user's device. Where sync is useful, it should use iCloud or storage chosen by the user rather than a developer-operated account by default.

3. App-specific local access

AndMac

AndMac transfers files between this Mac and an Android MTP device after user action.

AndMac can access selected Mac files and folders and connected Android MTP storage. Access is used to browse, upload, download, create folders, rename, delete, and show transfer status when the user asks AndMac to do so.

File contents, file names, folder names, and Android storage contents are processed locally on the Mac and connected Android device. They are not sent to PrivateByte by AndMac.

4. Diagnostics

AndMac

AndMac keeps local diagnostic information in memory and in ~/Library/Logs/AndMac/AndMac.log to debug USB and transfer failures.

Diagnostics are not sent automatically. The user can choose to export diagnostics. The default export redacts home paths, device registry identifiers, and names where practical.

5. Support communications

If a user contacts support, PrivateByte processes the information included in that communication. This may include name, email address, message content, device and app-version details, screenshots, diagnostics, attachments voluntarily supplied, and correspondence history.

Support information is used to answer enquiries, troubleshoot defects, meet legal obligations, and establish or defend legal claims. Depending on context, legal bases may include Article 6(1)(b), Article 6(1)(c), and Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Ordinary support correspondence is deleted after the published support retention period unless longer retention is required for legal, security, accounting, or dispute reasons.

6. App Store purchases and downloads

If a PrivateByte app is distributed through the Apple App Store, Apple may process store-account, payment, purchase, refund, device, fraud-prevention, tax, and store-operation information under Apple terms and privacy information.

PrivateByte may receive developer reports from Apple, such as aggregated sales, proceeds, refunds, territory, app version, and device category. These reports are not used for advertising tracking or user profiling.

7. Website

The PrivateByte website is https://privatebyte.app/. It is separate from the locally operating apps.

When the website is accessed, the hosting provider may technically process IP address, date and time, requested page, browser or operating-system information, referrer, status code, and security logs. The purpose is to deliver the website securely and reliably. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.

The website is intended to use no analytics, no cookies, and no third-party embedded content.

8. Recipients

Support, business, or legal information is disclosed only where necessary to email and hosting providers, professional advisers, tax advisers, auditors, courts, regulators, public authorities, app-store operators, or service providers acting under appropriate safeguards. PrivateByte does not sell personal data.

9. International transfers

International transfer details must be completed based on the selected support email and hosting providers before publication.

10. Data-subject rights

For information PrivateByte actually processes, affected persons may have GDPR rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, data portability, withdrawal of consent where applicable, and complaint to a supervisory authority.

These rights do not let PrivateByte access files or diagnostics stored only on the user device and not sent to support. Requests can be sent to your@privatebyte.app.

11. Supervisory authority

The competent data-protection supervisory authority must be listed based on the legal operator location before publication.

12. Children

PrivateByte apps are not specifically directed at children. Because no account is created and app content is not transmitted by default, PrivateByte does not knowingly collect children's app content.

13. Changes

This policy may be updated where app functionality, legal requirements, support processes, or business processes change. The current version is available in the app and on this website.
